This fruit crate label was used by Ed Kurtz, Lodi, California. Image of African American, used for Zinfandel wine grapes. On wine grapes for red wine, the darker the better, a sign of maturity. This label would have gone on a crate of juice grapes, grapes shipped back east and sold to home wine makers. They generally shipped in 28 pound crates and people would buy a few crates for making wine.
